Getting Started

Getting started. That's the first stumbling block for many people when thinking about changing their diet to become more healthy. It's a minefield out there. I have over the years tried and failed to make any great in roads with my weight loss. Yes I do have a medical condition but it's not just that, that led me to give up.

Fad diets for one are just that, a fad. They are normally followed for short periods of time and offer great results. But more often than not they leave you feeling deprived, hungry and miserable. Yes you may have lost a decent amount of weight but then you start eating again. The way you did before and guess what? You put it all back on nearly as fast as you lost it, plus a little bit more for good measure. You never learnt a thing about how to eat in a way to nourish your body and still loose weight. You just starved it instead.

Learning to eat healthily is confusing and every week new research tells us something different. So we just keep searching, trying to find the miracle that will enable us to loose weight and live a normal, healthy and happy life, without depriving ourselves of something we can't live without. Food.

Taking that first step was something that I had mulled over whilst doing that last fad diet. I was sat there looking at the unappetising blob on my plate, thinking there had to be another way. I had heard of Slimming World before and had been told how great the diet was, so I got on the internet and looked it up. Should I go for the online option. I could hide away from the world and just get on with it. But would I. Probably not, after all my track record was pretty flaky. So I looked up my local groups. There were a few to choose from and that also meant if I couldn't get to one group, then maybe I could go to another.

The first time I walked into group I was petrified. I had lost 2 1/2 stone through my medication and the fad diets but even so I was  still a very large lady, 5 foot and 16 stone. But when I looked around and no one was whispering about me, in fact they were saying hello and smiling. I normally got looks of disgust or sniggers and nasty comments from kids. After talking to my consultant and listening to everyone during the class I realised, they were all like me. We were all there because we wanted to be a healthier and happier version of ourselves.

I have to say it was the best first step I have ever made.

Don't ever feel alone because there are lots of other people out there that feel just the same xxx
